This Plug-in integrates The International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) data for Africa in WorldWind.
In WorldWind, you can view the IRI datasets, clicking on points brings up graphs of variables such as rainfall.
Loading and using the plug-in
- To load the plug-in click 'Load/Unload...' in the Plug-Ins menu (see figure 1). Then from the dialog box click 'IRI Data Access Tool' (you may have to scroll down a bit), and press the 'Load' button (see figure 2), the indicator next to 'IRI Data Access Tool' should now change to green, now close the dialog box.
- To activate the plug-in click the toolbar icon (see figure 3), a dialog box with several options is then displayed (see figure 4).
Steps:
1) The user can select a data product, i.e. Malaria Warning products, Desert Locust Area products, and more.
2) Next, choose a date range (or check the "latest available" box), then hit "Map!". This will either load a single image, or begin to download and cache dynamic time series WMS images. If multiple images are available, they will animate.
3) The user can also select a location, and generate charts and graphs for each data product.
4) The graphs and charts may be altered by choosing a different spatial area average. For example, when the user clicks a point, depending on the radio button selection (11x11km), a box is used to spatially average data. These graphs are generated by interacting directly with the IRI website at Columbia University.
This Plug-in is the result of a collaborative effort between The International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) at Columbia University, and The Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT) a Cayuga Community College.
Funding was provided by USAID to support the SERVIR project.
