This is a glossary of terms commonly used with World Wind.

A

add-on
A feature that is not part of the core of World Wind. These can be layers, scripts or in some other way related to World Wind. Add-ons are usually community made. See the Add-On_list and the Add-on forum for further information.
Altitude
Distance above sea level.

dataset
The imagery used to cover the surface of the world.
Also used: Surface Data.
DDS
Direct Draw Surface. World Wind saves textures in this File Format.

L

LandSat 7
The seventh satellite of the LandSat project.
Latitude
Degrees difference North or South from the Equator.
layer
Data that can be shown or hidden on the planet in World Wind. A layer can contain any of images, text and trails.
Longitude
Degrees difference East or West from Greenwich, England.

MODIS
Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. See Rapid Fire MODIS for usage details in World Wind.
