This is a glossary of terms commonly used with World Wind.

A
- add-on
- A feature that is not part of the core of World Wind. These can be layers, scripts or in some other way related to World Wind. Add-ons are usually community made.
- Altitude
- Distance above sea level.

- dataset
- The imagery used to cover the surface of the world.
- Also used: Surface Data.
L
- LandSat 7
- The seventh satellite of the LandSat project.
- Latitude
- Degrees difference North or South from the Equator.
- layer
- Data that can be shown or hidden on the planet in World Wind. A layer can contain any of images, text and trails.
- Longitude
- Degrees difference East or West from Greenwich, England.
M
- MODIS
- Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer

- Orthophoto
- A photograph that has been processed to have a uniform-scale.

- script
- A prerecorded series of view changes and text display that can be run from within World Wind.

- SVS
- Scientific Visulaization Studio

- tile
- An image from a dataset. World Wind downloads datasets one tile at a time.
- Topographic
- Graphic representation of the surface features of an area.
